Do 30-day passes work on Metra in Chicago?

I know that U-Pass works only on buses and I;m trying to find the cheapest and fastest way to get to the Loop (I live on the northwest side). I heard that (unlimited) 30-day passes ($86 or $89) don;t work on Metra. Is this true? I don;t want to spend $90 on something that won;t work on trains.Which is better to buy: Chicago Card or the 30-day pass? (I will be going to school 5 times a day)Thanks
