How to wear an ascot tie

Many have asked: how does one wear/ tiean ascot tie?
First let's clarify:
Ascots gee in two basic styles, the ascot scarf, which is a square of silk loosely gathered around the neck. And the ascot tie, which has a pleated neckband and can be worn either under or over the collar, and tied in a multitude of ways.
Below are just a few ways that the versatile ascot tiecan be worn.

The classic ascot (over the collar) ~En cascade~
Worn over the collar, with the ends tucked into a vest or jacket. Looks great plain, or accessorized with an ascot pin. Especially well suited to heavy brocades, silks, velvetsand other stiffer fabrics. Suitable for weddings, graduations, and any other formal event where a bowtie would be worn.

The classic ascot (under the collar) ~otherwise known as a day cravat~
Another great classic look. Worn under the shirt collar with just the top peeking out. Slightly less formal looking, but still refined and elegant. Especially well suited to softer fabrics such as flannels, cottons, and other washable fabrics. Suitable for cocktail parties, every day wear, and any other dressy events not requiring full formal attire.

The ruche tie ~Cocolupa knot~
A twist on a favorite. Dressier than a standard windsor knot tie, yet not quite as formal as a full dress ascot. Worn over the collar, ends tucked into a vest or jacket. Suitable for all the longer tie style ascots in stiffer fabrics so it can hold it's knot.

The Knotted Ascot ~Naud Gordien~
Very classic victorian look. Worn over the collar andknotted in the center withendstucked intoathe vest or jacket . Can be worn with the ends left free, or criss crossed over one another and held in place with a stickpin (as shown). The height of formal opulence. Can be worn at the same events as the formal classic ascot style. Good for brocades, velvets, dupioni silk, and any other stiffer materials that hold thier shape. This style is also often referred to as the Plastron.
And of course, all of these great styles can be worn with a plain button down dress shirt!
